If you are interested in running a competition in the future please contact Donna (link at the bottom of the page)
Things required
to apply to run this competition :
1. Competition organising experience
(this can be either the applicant or a member of the applicant's
committee).
2. Must be for a registered charity and not an individual.
3.
Charity/condition to be associated with person(s) involved in highland
dancing.
4. Costs involved - all costs associated with organising the
competition to be met by the applicant/charity.
5. Additional costs -
£100 donation to this organisation towards the administration costs and associated fees including annual website fee and
SOBHD stamp for that current year. Also a donation of a good quality trophy
(for the purpose of future replacement of trophies) to be made to this organisation.
Things to consider
when running this competition :
1. This competition runs the second
weekend in March.
2. Try not to clash with another competition in your
area.
3. Be realistic in what you expect to raise. The costs associated with
running a competition are high and we recommend a budget is made to ensure a
realistic goal is achieved. For a copy of an example list of costs please email
me.
4. Provide as much information on the charity/condition/venue/dancer/photos to Donna for the purpose of adverising your event on the website.
5. Perpetual trophies have been distributed (so no trophies need to be
purchased - unless trophy dances are required).
6. No dances are set although
a Highland, Highland Runner-up and National trophy are given out for
Intermediate and Premier groups. In Beginners and Novice only Overall and
Runner-up trophies are given out in each group. Age groups for pre-premier
are not set, and trophies are available for 3 age groups in Beg, Nov and
Int.
7. Along with friends and family, enlist the help from your chosen charity for ideas, charity merchandise, advertising and representation on the day.
After the event :
1. Ensure copies of all results, trophy winners signed sheets and stamp are
returned to Donna asap after the event in order to ensure a smooth transition for the next event. It will be the responsibility of
the organiser of the new year to ensure the return of the trophies from
the previous year. Copies of previous trophy winners and their contact
details will be forwarded on by Donna to ensure a smooth transition
between competitions.
2. Following the competition provide asap a report on the event including details
of results, photos, proceeds raised for charity and general information on
the success of the event for the purpose
of public interest on the website.
3. Write a letter to the SOBHD providing information on the proceeds raised and success of the event.
