Monifieth Medieval Fair and Gala Day

The Fair is a community event supported by nearly all the community organisations within Monifieth

The theme  for the event is medieval,  and as the name suggest has its origins from an earlier time.

The community in Monifieth dates back from the time when Christianity was introduced to the area by St Regulus or St Rule from across the river Tay at St Andrews. A Fair was duly established in his honour, St Rule’s Fair, which eventually became corrupted to Trewell’s Fair. Unlike the Lammas Fair for example in St Andrews, the Monifieth event did not last to modern times.

An attempt was made some years ago to revive the Trewell’s Fair at the sea front, but like its predecessor it too did not prevail for more than a year or two.

The present medieval fair has held in the town centre for around 12 years, but this year is being re-sited at the sea front, and incorporates a host of activities intended to appeal to all ages, and includes Jugglers, bands, Displays, Dancing, Fancy Dress and of course as all fairs have, craft stalls. The new site allows the event expand, and will incorporate Medieval Re-enactments, Raptor Displays and Dog Agility.

The 2015 event will be held on Sunday 21st June, from 12.50 am to 4.30 pm. Entrance is free.
